SafetyCoin

OBD, Edge AI & Mobile Sensing

SafetyCoin turns an ordinary vehicle and phone into an edge safety sensor — capturing data, running analytics on-device, and protecting privacy by design.

Sensing Stack

Low-cost, edge-first data acquisition

SafetyCoin avoids expensive specialized hardware by combining the OBD-II port with a capable mobile device.

OB

OBD-II Speed & Vehicle Data

Reads accurate speed and diagnostics directly from the vehicle's OBD-II port as ground-truth input.

EP

Phone as Edge Processor

The mobile phone fuses GPS and motion sensors with vehicle data and runs analytics on-device.

CV

Camera-Based Concepts

Distraction, seatbelt, and red-light awareness concepts using the device camera.

HE

Harsh Event Detection

Detects harsh braking and acceleration events that indicate elevated trip risk.

How It Works

From port and phone to safety signals

The OBD-II adapter streams vehicle speed and diagnostics, while the mobile phone contributes GPS and motion sensing. The phone acts as the edge processor: it fuses these inputs, detects harsh braking and acceleration events, and — where enabled — applies camera-based safety concepts such as distraction and seatbelt awareness.

Because analysis happens at the edge, only meaningful safety scores and events need to leave the device — keeping bandwidth low and privacy high.

Privacy-First Design

  • Process sensitive data on-device wherever possible
  • Share scores and events, not raw camera feeds, by default
  • Driver-aware data handling and clear consent
  • Minimize and aggregate data sent to the cloud
