LastMilo and Demand-Responsive Last-Mile Access
Why fixed routes fail at the edge of the network—and how demand-responsive dispatch can extend public transport reach.
Last-mile gaps show up everywhere rural lines thin out, stations sit far from villages, or first/last connections break the trip chain. LastMilo is our working name for demand-responsive concepts that complement—not replace—scheduled public transport.
When fixed routes are the wrong tool
Low-density areas cannot sustain frequent fixed routes without heavy subsidy. Responsive pools, virtual stops, and schedule-aware dispatch can improve access if operating rules and rider expectations are set clearly from day one.
Integration with timetables
Last-mile only works when it meets trains and buses. We design flows around real timetable data, slack for delay, and simple booking so operators are not juggling three disconnected systems.
LastMilo is early-stage—community feedback on pilot geography and operator partnerships helps us prioritize features before any live deployment.
